Rossland is a unique and wonderful place.  There is always something happening in Rossland - here are a few suggestions to get you started.

Do Some Pow Turns

 

Rossland is famous for it's Steep and Deep ski Resort - Red Mountain Resort. Get out and enjoy some of our famous interior snow and amazing terrain we have on offer.  

 

Looking for less crowds and more powder check out Big Red Cats Catskiing adventures - hard to go back to the Resort though.

 

Rossland is also the home of two Canadian Paralympic Heroes - Ian Lockey and Kimberley Joines.  Not to mention the many other ski heroes from this area - Nancy Greene and many more.

Toasted Cheese Sandwiches in a Backcountry Cabin

 

A real Kootenay Adventure.  Whether your on snowshoes, skis or a fat bike get out to one of the backcountry warming huts up at Nancy Greene Cabin and have a true Kootenay experience.  

 

Kootenay Snowshoeing can get you out into the great unknown.  With qualified guides and transport they will create the perfect day trip for groups of all levels.  

 

Looking for something a little less adventurous? Check out Blackjack Cross Country Club for some great groomed cross country skiing for both Classic and Skate Skiing.

Check out Downtown

 

Catch a ride on the FREE RIDE BUS into our recently remodelled downtown area. Our main street has something for everyone - a selection of great coffee shops and restaurants; outdoor stores and funky clothing, shoes, kitchen and baby stores.  Each one unique with items you will not find elsewhere.  

 

Stop by the Mountain Nugget Chocolate Store and visit the Rossland Brewery for a taste of Kootenay culture.  

 

Stroll through the art gallery, stop in at the Medical Aesthetics or get in a workout at Better Life Fitness.  

 

Join one of our great Yoga teachers to stretch out from your day in the snow!  Kerry Yoga offers classes throughout the year and is available for private lessons too!

Visit the Mueseum

 

Rossland has some great history as one of the oldest cities in Canada.  Our mueseum is a great place to visit - there are many interesting facts you would never have believed.  Check them out online. 

Go To a Smoke Eaters Hockey Game

 

World Class hockey in our own backyard.  Trail is the City of Champions and has a long history of Hockey legends.  In fact Ferraro's Grocery Store is linked to Ray Ferraro of Canadian hockey fame.

Need a ride to the Game - Call Mountain Shuttle - they offer shuttles to and from the games so you can all enjoy a beer with your hockey!

 

Eat at the Infamous Flying Steamshovel Hotel

 

The Flying Steamshovel is named after a contraption that an enterprising dreamer named Lou Gagnon built, flew, and crashed right next to this site. Lou Gagnon’s dream was to ferry the gold ore off the steep slopes of Red Mountain by air, and on a February afternoon in 1902, his mysterious machine was skidded into the nearby yard for its maiden flight.  Want to know more? Need a ride to or from the Bar - Call Mountain Shuttle - they offer shuttles to and from the bar after the Free Ride Shuttle finishes throughout the winter season.

 

Watch the Bobsled at Winter Carnival

 

If Rick Mercer can get in the Bobsled - You can too.  

 

Every year Rossland shows its true winter spirit.  The last weekend of January experience the best show in town.  From Luging on the mountain to Bobsledding down the mainstreet we do it all.  Check out this years schedule.

Sorry folks but it is true - Rossland does abide by the ethics of skiing and if the 15cm rule is in effect - don't try and fight them - JOIN THEM.  

 

They'll be tired by 12 and back at work for the afternoon.
